  2. I love Target!! I have been waiting for the teacher stuff to show up in the dollar spot at my Target, but so far only a few items have come out. I did find some really cute community helper flashcards that will make a great addition to my unit!

  6. Back in November or December, I found some great flashcards. I bought a set of cards for Insects, Space, Landscapes, Sea Life, and Animals. I couldn't find the Dinosaur set they were supposed to have, though. I bought them right before the Kindergartners I worked with were doing an animal unit. Two of the teachers I worked with at the time and myself fell so in love with them that I went out and bought another pack of all 5 of the sets I could find and both those teachers went and picked up the sets. The pictures are AWESOME (very colorful, bright, detailed, large, etc.) on all of them and the whole backside is written information. When I did my student teaching this past semester in first grade, I used these cards anytime they related to a unit we did. My favorite activity was our insect writing. Our reading unit was Bugs so I decided to make it my writing unit as well that week. I used my Target Insect cards and went to Dollar Tree and found some plastic bug catchers (boxes, not nets). I bought a bug catcher for each of my 6 groups and stuck one flashcard in each. Whatever card was in their bug catcher was the insect their group wrote about. First, they brainstormed what they already knew about their insect. I, of course, printed out a small outline picture of all the bugs and those were their cards to write on. So, for instance, the ladybug group, had sheets of ladybugs and they wrote one thing they knew on a ladybug paper and stuck this in their bug catcher. The next day, they read the back of their card and got to research more about their bug using books I had gathered from the library. Then, they organized what they already knew and what they had learned into a graphic organizer, which of course was a big paper in the shape of their insect. From there they wrote about their insect. Between the bug catchers from Dollar Tree and the picture on their insect cards from Target, my kiddos could not stay away from the table I stored their stuff on when it wasn't writing time that week! During my space unit, I used the cards for writing prompts and had to leave the cards out for independent reading time for my students because they loved reading the information about the pictures! The Community Helpers flashcards now don't seem to be nearly that exciting to me after seeing these WONDERFUL flash cards, but I'm glad I bought those recently for when I teach about community and jobs. Oh, and I've bought oodles and oodles of stickers and stamps from Target that my students love!

  7. Oh Target (my secret love)! :) I believe, like everyone else, I have stalked the same 6 Targets on a daily basis for the last two weeks. I *accidentally* arrived there this morning and purchased a ton of goodies. :) One of my favorite items today was the polka dot boxes (that have a matching white board). They were $2.50 each. I NEEEEEDED them. :) My goal is to use them in my guided reading area to store the group's reading books.

  16. I love Target! Right now at "my" Target all of the summer items in the dollar spot are half off. I got several packs of mini markers and push top pencils all for 50 cents each! I also found packs of letter stickers, those cute ocean themed throw rugs, and lots of buckets. All for half off!

  17. I recently picked up 1/4 page white boards in the dollar spot. This will keep the kids on target with specific activity and leave less room to doodle.

  37. I recently just bought a shower curtain- yes I know a shower curtain.
My students have to learn their PIN number by Dec, so I plan on putting a 10 key pad on one side. Using a Koosh ball the kids will throw one Koosh ball on each number. On the other side I plan on putting an ABC chart and then using the Koosh balls again, have the kids identify a letter.

  56. I spent way too much money at Target the other day and only made it to the dollar bins! I was very excited to find the storage tote with 3 compartments. At my school teachers must give students toilet paper before entering the bathroom, it isn't in the stall. So this handy tote will carry toilet paper, sanitizer, and paper towels if needed! I'm totally excited! :) Is that weird?
